Synopsis

When a patient wants to turn off the device keeping her alive, Steele (Dalip Sondhi), the Head of Medicine, and her cardiologist, steps in to dissuade her. Lou (Andrea Demetriades) is caught between a rock and a hardplace when her friend Frankie (Claire van der Boom) undertakes an RCA into a patient’s death, threatening her relationship with her two surgical bosses.

Worried about his failing health, Frankie (Claire van der Boom) urges Berger (Owen Teale) to undergo surgery on his brain tumour, but he refuses, not wanting to be seen as sick, or give up work.

She is asked to take on the roll of running an RCA – a root cause analysis – into Zoe’s death. But Lou (Andrea Demetriades) sees this as misconduct – Frankie is biased, and has betrayed Lou’s confidence by urging her to speak out against Mitri (Blessing Mokgohloa) – an act that would no doubt cost Lou her job.

Heart patient Chrissy (Arianthe Galani) is brought in suffering from her ICD – a device implanted in her heart to shock her back to life each time she arrests. The pain is traumatizing, and Eli (Liam McIntyre) fights for Chrissy’s right to turn off the implant and choose her time to die.

Mitri gives Lou a ride home from the pub, hoping to convince her to stay quiet in the RCA. But it ends badly for both of them.
